All rod screws & key screws are operating and serviceable. There is nothing seized or stuck which is comforting to know on an instrument of this age. It appears to have been regularly serviced as the pads are in good order and there are no leaks. Looking over the body, the wood has no splits or cracks. It has been recently oiled inside and out and looks in good order. The neck has been modified to house a piezo pickup in the form of a cut and shaped block of hardwood, which has been rather crudely glued to an inside curve of the neck (see pictures). The piezo is held in place with elastic and the other end simply plugs into the amplifier/PA desk. The bell/horn is hand engraved with "Pedler Custom Built, Elkhart Ind.".
There are signs of dent removal on the bell and possibly re-braising of the bell tone hole, but that could just be 1930's workmanship.
All corks are in place and the keywork is fairly slick and quiet suggesting it has been recently oiled/serviced.
Cosmetically, there are scratches and marks to the body, the nickel/silver plated keys show signs of pitting and wear and there are scratches and marks to the bell & neck, but there is nothing which stops this vintage instrument from playing as it should. On a side note, it is getting on a bit and does smell a bit musty.
